Galangal contains volatile oil, galangal and other substances.It is cylindrical, much curved, with branches, 5-9cm long, 1-1.5cm in diameter. the surface is brownish-red to dark brown, with fine longitudinal wrinkles and grey-brown wavy links, the internodes are 0.2-1cm long, and there is a rounded root scar on one side. The texture is tough, not easy to break, the section is greyish brown or reddish brown, fibrous, the middle column accounts for about 1/3. the smell is fragrant, the taste is pungent.

Galangal is native to China, and is now cultivated in Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Taiwan and Yunnan, and grows in sunny hills, gentle slopes, barren slopes, grassy areas, forest margins and sparse forests.Galangal likes high temperatures, is not cold-tolerant, and is moisture-resistant.
