Star anise oil, with other names or for short as oil of star anise, star aniseed oil, anise oil, aniseed oil, aniseed oil star Chinese, is a sort of oil that is distilled from a plant called "star anise"( Latin name: Illicium verum Hook.f.). It can be applied in many aspects as food additive, food flavours and fragrances, daily chemicals, even treament medicals, for instance, Chinese treament physiotherapy.

At common temperature like 20ºC, or room temperature, it shows an appearance as liquid, colorless to light yellow and clean. Mostly, light yellow liquid. We can smell a strong star anise odor and feel nose breathes smoothly by smelling. We can't ensure everyone likes the smell, but it smells special and good really. If the temperature comes to 15ºC or below 15ºC, it will shows a physical change and turns into ICE or Crystal. Don't worry, quality is OK, it is just shy. Haha......
It can be distilled from star anise fruits, also from star anise leaves. They are both good without difference between advantages and disavantages. We may learn main differences between them by a view to picture below.
This picture concentrates main features of these two kind of oils, with experiences of over ten years. Some batch of star anise oil doesn't meet the same feature(s) totally, it depends on detailed tested results. So we can only say, this is a talk of experience.
How to choose them? There's no an integrated standard. Some users like them both, some like fruit oil(ex-fruits), some like leaf oil(ex-leaves). It depends on the detailed usage styles of the detailed users. According to our experiences, as usual, users over seas prefer to the leaf oil, because it conforms to the requirements of BP/EP( British Pharmacopoeia/European Pharmacopoeia). So it is welcome by purchasers from Europe and America. But, of course, like words said above, it depends. Nothing is absolute.
